Boost in my Google ranks

Well its about time! My Google ranks finally got a boost for my site Hollen-B.  I have a feeling the bad ranks had something to do with a forum I was testing out and forgot to take down. I found the forum flooded with random garbage and words that would catch a back hand from your mother for repeating. Do these people who post this garbage not have any shame in what the do? To be honest I’m not really sure what boosted my ranks but to trace back to some of the things I did started with removing the forum. I didn’t really do much with the meta tags but I did go with a Google site map as well as a yahoo sitemap. I also added a bot file and pointed out what directories I didn’t want it to follow. I even resubmitted my site to Google and put in a reconsideration letter. I posted all my tutorials on any tutorial web site I could find which did bring in a ton of traffic but not from Google. I think it wasn’t in till recently I went through my image folders and started cleaning out old stuff I wasn’t using anymore, thats when I noticed my Google Analytics picking up some Google traffic.  Well now that im back up there I guess its a good time to start working on a new layout :)

Cool CSS technique I found on digg.com

I just finished working on a new tutorial :D man its been a while and well over due for a new one.

While working on one of my projects I wanted to add a star icon to symbolize add to favorites. Digg has a very similar option so I thought why not see how they handle this task. While digging through their source I decided to take a look at their icon image and come to find a long row of icons. Holy crow, what a fantastic idea! I have used similar techniques for rollover buttons but never a full on tool-set.

About A.R. Ghrist

Andrew GhristHe didn’t first start exploring his love for art and painting till
about age 14. I went with him and his sister when he
moved into the dorms at the California Institute of the Arts to attend InnerSpark, a summer art program, back in 2006.
Before this summer he had only taken classes in Junior High School. After that he went on to attend the San Francisco
Art Institute (SFAI) Pre-College Program in 2007. Then in 2008, the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) Pre-College
Program. In 2009, he began working towards his BFA at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC).
